Sewing Sundays is LeEkhaya’s planned monthly sewing-class series, held on the last Sunday of the month. Each session will be announced separately, with its own confirmed date, project and booking details. Only the 29 November session is currently open for booking; future dates will be added once confirmed.
Own a sewing machine but don’t know where to start?
Join our beginner-friendly session on 29 November, designed especially for people who own a sewing machine but aren’t confident using it.
With guidance from a tutor with over 30 years’ experience, take your first steps towards feeling comfortable at your machine. No previous sewing experience is required.
Learn the Basics. Make Something to Take Home.
Get to know your sewing machine through guided practice, then put your new skills into action by working on a simple envelope cushion cover.
- Explore your machine’s basic controls.
- Learn how to thread your machine and wind and insert the bobbin.
- Practise straight stitching, securing seams and turning corners.
- Work with seam allowances and practise measuring, cutting and pressing fabric.
- Assemble and sew an envelope cushion cover, without tackling zips or buttonholes.
The session will move from machine basics and practice stitches to your take-home project, with time for a break and individual guidance. We’ll adapt the pace to the group. The aim is to finish a cushion cover; if you need more time, you can take your work home to continue.

Fabric and all class tools are provided. The planned project is an envelope cushion cover.
Bring Your Own Machine
Please bring your own sewing machine so you can build confidence with the machine you’ll use at home. Remember its power lead and foot pedal, and bring the instruction manual if you have it. Bring the bobbin and accessories supplied with your machine where available.
One studio machine is available for the 29 November session by prior arrangement. If you need to use it, please email info@leekhaya.com to confirm availability before booking.
